Anisa is a Tunisian journalist who goes to Paris to investigate the file of Arab immigrants. The events of the novel take place between Tunisia and France, extending over intertwined times between past, present and future. Anisa makes her case as a black Tunisian who experiences marginalization in Tunisia, just as immigrants live in France.
